Frank W. Harris
Frank Harris

President & Chief Executive Officer, Akron Polymer Systems, Co-founder of APS in 2002

Dr. Harris is internationally known for his work in condensation polymerization and has been an expert in his field for over 30 years. He has carried out extensive research on polyimides and polybenzimidazoles. One of the products he co-developed (an optically compensation film) has generated more than $ 1 billion in sales.

He had joined University of Akron in 1983 as a Professor and was promoted to Distinguished Professor of Polymer Science and Biomedical Engineering in 1994. Until recently he has served as Director of The Maurice Morton Institute of Polymer Science at the University and was an American Editor of the International Journal, POLYMER. In 2008 Dr. Harris retired from the University to devote his attention to running APS as President and CEO.

Prior to starting APS , Dr. Harris founded Daychem Laboratories in Dayton , Ohio , Ballard Advanced Materials in Vancouver , Canada and Boca Advanced Materials in Cincinnati , Ohio . He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Brady Corporation in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Dr. Harris studied at Iowa University and has authored more than 40 patents and 225 referred publications. He has also served as an expert witness in numerous patent litigations.

Ken McMahon

Senior Vice President and Head of Business Unit, Performance Intermediates, Lonza AG, Switzerland

Mr McMahon has been working in various Sales, Marketing and Operations Management positions with Lonza since 1984. Lonza is a leading global diversified Life Science and Material Company with annual revenues of $ 2.85 billion. Prior to his current role at Lonza, Ken was one of the major contributors in implementing Lonza‘s China strategy and spent 5 years in China building and operating Lonza’s first production site at Guangzhou, China. Ken has extensive global experience in business and operation management and worked on various strategic projects including re-structuring and turn-around for Lonza’s various businesses. Ken has been playing an active role in the geographical expansion of Lonza’s Performance Intermediates business including capital investment, Joint Venture (JV), and Partnership.

Ken Studied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at University of Sydney, Australia and MBA from the University of Chicago. Ken lives with his family in Basel, Switzerland and enjoys mountain climbing and skiing in the Swiss Alps.

James G. Schleck

  • China Development Group- Consultation for China –centric industrial business

  • Eikos Corporation – a nanotechnology company

Mr. Schleck is a graduate of West Point and served 4 years active duty . He also has an MBA from Columbia Business School.

He is an active member of the Indian Chemical Council and also adorned the position of member of “Task Force on Chemical Industries” constituted by the government of India with an objective to put forward a strategy for increasing competitiveness for the Indian chemical Industry.

As Managing Trustee he actively participates and guides the Foundations’ various activities, which stretches from Integrated Community Development Programs to Women Health, Care and Employment programs.

Program Manager, Fire Research Program -U.S Department of Transportation, Federal Aviation Administration ( FAA ), Atlantic City, Airport, NJ 08405, USA

Richard Lyon has conducted and managed long –range research effort in advanced fire-safe materials for use in commercial aircraft interiors under FAA charter since 1993. Prior to joining FAA Dr. Lyon had been in polymer composite group at University of California , Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, Livermore, California. Dr. Lyon had pioneered low heat release material development for aircraft interiors and he is the inventor of Microscale Combustion Calorimeter, which has been commercialized and widely used for screening of fire resistance materials. Dr. Lyon received various FAA Technology Transfer awards and published 150 papers, proceedings and book chapters on polymer science, engineering and combustion. Dr. Lyon acts as Advisory Board , Fire and Material Journal , Associate Member , U.S –Japan National Research Panel on Fire Research and Safely , Founder and past Chairman, Interagency Working Group on Fire and Materials, Industrial Advisory Board University of Massachusetts ( Amherst ) , Advisory Council , Drexel University , Philadelphia, Reviewer for NSF , NIST/ ATP and several leading Journals.
